The patellar tendon / ligament joins the kneecap (patella) to the shin bone or tibia. This tendon is extremely strong and allows the quadriceps muscle group to straighten your leg. The quadriceps straighten the knee in jumping to propel the individual off the ground as well as functioning in stabilizing their landing. This tendon is used a lot in our daily lives and comes under a large amount of stress – especially in individuals who actively put extra strain on the knee joint such as those who regularly perform sports that involve direction changing and jumping movements like basketball, volleyball and hockey. As a result of repeated strain, micro-tears as well as degeneration may occur in the tendon. This is known as Patellar Tendinopathy or Jumpers Knee, if untreated will become Patella Tendonitis where inflammation occur; causing pain, discomfort and swollen knee depending on the stage of problem.
This adjustable strap is designed to improve patellar tracking and elevation by applying mild pressure on the tendon. The main part provides uniform pressure and helps relief pain.
Used for treatment of:
- Tendonitis (inflamation)
- Chondromalacia (knee cap irritation)
- Osgood Schlatter (one's rapid growth associated with intensive sport activity)
